SAT – Scholastic Aptitude Test
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (as it was previously called), or SAT, is recognized throughout the world as the admissions test that allows you to show colleges and universities what you know, and how well you can apply that knowledge. The SAT tests your knowledge of high school level reading, writing, and mathematics. Most students take the SAT during their junior and senior years of high school. Colleges and universities use the SAT as one factor in admissions decisions.
The SAT tests your knowledge of the subjects you are learning in high school. The SAT allows you to demonstrate your abilities in these subjects. Colleges and universities use your scores on the SAT to predict your academic success in higher education.
The SAT tests three areas:
- Critical Reading: includes reading passages for comprehension
- Writing: includes short essay writing and multiple-choice questions on grammar, usage, sentence completion, and identifying errors
- Mathematics: includes math operations, algebra, geometry, and probability
Performing well on the SAT is a direct result of hard work in high school and good study habits. Mastering challenging course work will help solidify these study habits and build solid skill levels. Develop your reading and writing skills, and practice writing both in and out of school. Use SAT practice tests to familiarize yourself with the test format, the types of questions, and how to manage your time during testing periods.
